Coach Operator Instructors are responsible for developing, researching and conducting training for coach operator trainees, coach operators and other employees as assigned.  They may assist in writing new and modifying existing curriculum, train drivers on new routes and handle other driver training as necessary. 


Note:  No presentation or classroom instruction skills required at entry.

Essential Duties

  1. Principally responsible for conducting training for coach operators, coach operator trainees.  May conduct same or parts of the same training for other employees as assigned.
  2. Research, develop, prepare and maintain instructional materials and training aids.
  3. Evaluate and audit employee skill development, such as annual coach operator evaluations, post-accident training, etc.
  4. Coordinate technical training provided by vendors, schools and other instructors; evaluate and recommend training aids or programs for purchase; process purchase requisition and invoices for payment.
  5. Set up training schedules; arrange facilities, materials, training aids, participants.
  6. Prepare written, practical and oral exams as appropriate.
  7. Assess training needs, make recommendations to management.
  8. Create and maintain related documentation.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.


  1. Three years Community Transit bus driving experience, including time in training within the last 4 years.  Two years of prior Coach Operator Instruction (anywhere in the U.S.) can substitute for two years of Community Transit bus driving experience.
  2. One year experience working with a PC using word processing and email functions.
  3. Valid WA State Driver's License and CDL Class B (with passenger endorsement and air-brake restriction lifted).
  4. Valid DOT Medical Certification.
  5. No more than one moving violation within the last five years and no preventable accidents in the last three years and no cited accidents within the last five years (a five-year abstract must be provided).
  6. No written disciplinary action within the last two years (from date of your application).
  7. Ability to work varied shifts and days with overtime as required.
  8. Familiarity with coach operator SOP and agency policies.
  9. Knowledge of Community Transit routes and operations.

Knowledge of how to mentor and/or teach people is preferred.
