    STEP is an entertaining and informative outreach program developed by Community Transit to introduce children (K-12) to the benefits of public transportation. This program is held, not only at public, private, and home-school locations but also at numerous community events throughout Snohomish County and north King County.

     

    Essential Duties

    STEP Drivers, work with the Education Coordinator, to provide bus rides for school age children as well as drive buses or other designated marketing vehicles in parades and other non-revenue marketing events. Drivers may be asked to interact with school children and with the general public at community events. These events take place throughout Snohomish County’s school districts, Snohomish County communities and north King County. The hours for school programs generally run between 9:00 a.m. and  2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

     

    Community outreach events are generally held on evenings and weekends and most times require the STEP Driver to remain on-site with the bus during the event. 

    Requirements

     

     

    Minimum Qualifications

     

    To receive consideration for these opportunities, you must meet and sustain the following requirements:

     

    • Full-time coach operator/driver with at least one year of experience operating all transit coaches at Community Transit. Exemplary employment history at Community Transit including:
      • Excellent Customer Service Skills.
      • Good Attendance.
      • Excellent Driving Record.
    • Ability and willingness to be an ambassador for Community Transit while on duty
    • Work one on one with the public at community outreach events
    • Assist Education Coordinator at school settings
    • Drive an articulated coach with children aboard
    • Work occasional night and weekend events
    • Assist Community Transit staff members at community outreach events, and take direction from staff as needed

    Please note

    • Training for the program will be provided.
    • This is NOT a separate position; rather it is a temporary assignment in place of normal Coach Operator duties.
    • Ability to display patience and flexibility when faced with deviations from written directions is highly encouraged.

     

    Compensation

      Coach Operator/Driver’s current base rate per union contract.
