  • Overview

    This program manager will be responsible for Community Transit's strategy, program planning and release management for the wireless communications program and project management for one or more projects in the program. The wireless communications program includes a major technical VoIP capital project that will replace the current land mobile radio system. The primary responsibility will be to manage the wireless program strategically and tactically and to coordinate all internal agency resources, consultants and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of the replacement project and into operations.

    Essential Duties

    1. Serve as primary Community Transit point of contact/authorized official for communication with the regional project teams, consultants, and/or the Contractor, as required. Attend regional technical meetings to ensure Community Transit's wireless project requirements are identified.
    2. Advise the project stakeholder on project status, technical options, and IT's position on agency issues.
    3. Coordinate project dependencies for wireless communications program projects and other transit technology projects. Coordinate the project activities of all internal Community Transit resources participating in this project to meet all contract scope and schedule requirements or negotiate revisions as required. Coordinate with technical staff for the development of integration requirements for all existing Community Transit systems required or affected by the replacement system.
    4. Manage the review and approval process of all strategic documents, planning documents, technical designs and functionality of the system at Community Transit.
    5. Witness and approve tests during various phases of the project including, as applicable, system integration testing, system commissioning testing, beta testing, and acceptance testing procedures.
    6. Lead weekly/monthly team meetings at Community Transit to communicate project status, facilitate communication between all team members, and lead the team to resolution on open issues.
    7. Plan and monitor budgets including processing vendor invoices/payments assigned projects.
    8. Manage the current onboard system changes within Community Transit coordinating with Community Transit's IT support group that provides technical support and the region.
    9. In addition, this position manages the strategic roadmap for onboard technologies


    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Bachelor's degree in project and/or program management, computer science, transportation planning, urban planning, public administration, or closely related field.
    2. Three years of program management experience and coordination with staff and contractors engaged in program development, installation, testing, and implementation of equipment and systems.
    3. Three years of experience leading, organizing, presenting, facilitating and negotiating with diverse stakeholders and user groups.
    4. Valid Washington State Driver's License.


    An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above may be considered in rare instances.

    Physical Requirements

    Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, carrying.


    Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
