    This opportunity is available to current employees who have worked at Community Transit for at least one year (by date of application).  We are seeking candidates that are strong leaders, have comprehensive knowledge of Transportation Standard Operating Procedures, are skilled at computer use, and have demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, respect for confidentiality, effective communication and success at interacting with all departments and levels of internal and external personnel.

    Transportation Supervisors are responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of bus operations and related systems and processes.  They influence and effectively reduce conflict through motivating and directing the work of others within established policies and procedures, troubleshoot common operational problems and recognize when to elevate issues to a higher level of management.  This position reports to the Manager of Transportation Operations.  There are two classifications of Transportation Supervisor:

    • Transportation Supervisor - Field Supervisor
    • In-House Supervisor - 1) Employee Staffing Supervisor and Employee Development Supervisor, 2) Dispatch Supervisor, 3) Construction and Events Supervisor.

    Essential Duties

    1. Current employee with at least one year of service with Community Transit (by date of application).
    2. Produce a valid Washington State Driver's License by time of hire.
    3. Demonstrate good driving record, documented by a 5 year abstract.
    4. Ability to adjust to frequent work schedule changes.
    5. Ability to work any day or any shift assigned, including nights, early mornings, split shifts, weekends and holidays
    6. No preventable Community Transit accidents within the last 2 years (from date of posting).
    7. No written disciplinary action within the last two years (from date of posting).

    To retain employment, the Supervisor must accomplish the following within the training time allotted:

    1.  Obtain a valid WA State Commercial Driver's License Class B or A with air brake restriction removed and passenger endorsement, and
    2.  Successfully complete Supervisor Training at Community Transit.


    Knowledge Required at Entry:

    1. Transit coach operating practices and service area.
    2. Computer programs in the windows environment.
    3. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
    4. Structure and content of the English language including the meaning & spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
    5. Relevant policies & procedures & strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, data, property and institutions.
    6. Basic project management and time management practices.

    Skills Required at Entry:

    1. Basic to Intermediate skill in computers - Windows applications (Word, Excel, Windows, Outlook).
    2. Interacting with others while maintaining a professional demeanor.
    3. Defusing situations & influencing effectively to reduce conflict through motivating and directing the work of others within established policies and procedures.
    4. Monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
    5. Troubleshooting common operational problems and recognizing when to elevate issues to a higher level of management.
    6. Effectively listen to, communicate with and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences especially by radio or telephone, so others will understand.
    7. Remaining cool under pressure in order to calmly guide people who may be in highly-charged situations.  Providing steady and calm support, advice and guidance.
    8. Multi-tasking, and setting and meeting goals.
    9. Performing data entry with a high degree of accuracy.
    10. Learning and utilizing skills in specialized technology.
    11. Embracing continuous improvement and the changes that result from improvement efforts.
    12. Safely driving any vehicle in the Community Transit fleet.
    13. Supervising personnel in the office and on the road.
    14. Performing essential duties of the role upon completion of on-the-job-training.
    15. Analyzing the work being done to recommend changes to improve safety, efficiency or effectiveness of service operations.
    16. Using hand tools to replace/repair/adjust light bulbs, windshield wipers, etc.
    17. Appropriately handling stress and interactions with others.

    • Successful completion of Coach Operator Training at Community Transit within 6 months of assignment.

    Selection Process - Applicants who meet minimum requirements may be scheduled for an interview & tests to demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities for the position.
