    The Facilities Maintenance Tech I, under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager or designee, is responsible for performing, independently or in a teamwork environment, a variety of manual labor and semi-skilled tasks using all types of small power and hand tools, power washing equipment, and miscellaneous equipment for the completion of assigned tasks.  Tasks are associated with commercial transit building components, bus stops, shelters, and park and ride property maintenance, repairs and assembly, cleaning and janitorial duties and grounds maintenance.

    Essential Duties

    1. Perform required activities in a safe manner as it relates to the repair and maintenance of buildings, shelters, stops and related equipment in all areas of the division's responsibility.
    2. Perform physical labor and routine maintenance tasks as may be assigned, such as, but not limited to, painting, grounds keeping, graffiti/trash/litter removal, carpentry, furniture assembly and set up, office moves and relocations, lighting and electrical service, minor plumbing repairs, proactive and preventative equipment maintenance, bus shelter maintenance, assembly and repairs and construction tasks.
    3. Actively promote and maintain professional and respectful interactions within the CT team and with external customers.
    4. Manage and maintain work order data in CMMS software through data entry.
    5. perform other related duties as assigned.


    1. Two years of trade school or recent experience performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance (within the past 7 years) is required.
    2. Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license at the time of hire and have a good driving record. (5 year abstract required).

    Entry Requirements:

    Qualification to enter this position requires knowledge of:

    1. Proper safety precautions and use of safety equipment.
    2. English, verbal and written, sufficient to read, communicate, comprehend and retain information.

    Qualification to enter this position requires skill in:

    1. Reading and understanding basic diagrams, directions, maps, elementary blueprints, and other instructional/directive materials.
    2. Data entry with high accuracy.
    3. Interpersonal skills and working with a diverse population.
    4. Basic computer functions and using and learning software programs.
    5. Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
    6. Safely operate various equipment, power tools, light and medium vehicles.
    7. Read, communicate, write, and comprehend English.
    8. Work indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions, on lifts and ladders, and in shops with high noise levels, oil, grease and other chemicals. Incumbent must also be able to work in various traffic situations.
    9. Stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
    10. Function effectively as a member of a team as well as independently.
    11. Establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees at all levels within the company and the general public that Community Transit serves.
    12. Use a computer for data entry of work orders, and e-mail with a high degree of accuracy.
    13. Be available for overtime and respond to emergencies as needed.

    Proficient Performance Requirements:

    Qualification to fulfill the full range of this position's duties requires the following knowledge and skills which may be gained or further developed after entering the job:

    1. Prepare and maintain information with efficiency and accuracy in the CMMS system.
    2. Certification in CPR.
    3. Certification for Scissor lift.
    4. Certification for Forklift.
    5. Certification for Bucket truck.
    6. Certification for Boom truck.

    Physical Requirements:

    Medium - Heavy Work:  Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 15 pounds constantly to move objects.  Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, listening, seeing, observing, repetitive motions, carrying and driving.


    Selection Process - Applicants who meet the minimum requirements may be scheduled for a variety of tests to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities required at entry for this position.  The evaluation process may include interviews, background checks, references and various performance tests.
