    Participate in a team that provides comprehensive infrastructure support services in a complex, 24x7, mission-critical, enterprise environment. The Systems Administrator is responsible for providing the first level of Tier 3 operational support for all network, server, and storage equipment managed by Technology Infrastructure Services. This includes wireless access points, firewalls, routers, switches, controllers, storage area networks, virtual infrastructure, and physical servers. The Systems Administrator monitors existing alerting systems and the division’s ticket queue, responds to all issues, attempts to troubleshoot and resolve issues, and escalates to engineers if necessary. The Systems Administrator also performs regular maintenance functions following established procedures. Under the guidance of engineers, the Systems Administrator may perform higher-level functions that support existing systems or projects.

    Essential Duties

     1. Operations Support

    • Provide operational support for existing network, server, and storage equipment
    • Implement additions to, changes to, and decommissioning of individual standalone systems or systems with minimal interoperability requirements
    • Respond to alerts following established troubleshooting procedures
    • Monitor the ticket queue; triage tickets beyond capabilities of tier 1/2 support; resolve if possible and document solution; escalate to Systems or Network Engineers as appropriate
    • Perform regular maintenance functions following established processes such as backups and patching
    • Participate in 24x7 on call rotation and respond to outages during business and after-hours
    • Follow IT Service Management best practices for all service functions focusing on incident management and change management
    • Apply basic security awareness in day to day activities
    • Create and maintain documentation and system inventories

    2. Projects and Lifecycle Management

    • Assist engineers in the deployment of entirely new systems or in the lifecycle management of existing systems

    3. Performs other duties of a similar nature and level


    Minimum Qualifications

    1. One (1) year recent experience operating, troubleshooting and supporting physical and virtual server and storage systems and converged networks in an enterprise environment, including managing operating systems, enterprise mail and database servers, backups, system/file restores, patching, clustering, raided storage area networks, routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks.
    2. One (1) year recent experience with various standard IT service management functions such as incident and change management.
    3. One (1) year recent experience managing assigned work through an enterprise ticketing system.
    4. Technical experience and proficiency with a Windows-based server environment, system performance monitoring tools, and SQL Server installation and management.
    5. Ability to work outside of normal business hours to support critical systems as required. 
    6. Must possess a valid WA State Driver’s license at time of hire.



    1. Hands on experience operating, troubleshooting and supporting network, server and storage infrastructure in a public cloud environment.
    2. Professional network or systems certifications such as CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+.
    3. Understanding of cabling best practices and equipment room design.
    4. Knowledge and experience with the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
    5. Bachelor degree in Information Technology related field of study.


    Entry Requirements for: Knowledge and Skills


    Qualification to enter this position requires knowledge of the following:

    1. Solid understanding of network, server and storage infrastructure, hardware, security and data transport protocols
    2. Microsoft products and technologies (e.g., AD, DNS, DHCP, Exchange)
    3. Virtualization technologies


    Qualification to enter this position requires skill in:

    1. Supporting a variety of network, server, and storage infrastructure
    2. Ability to create, read and edit system basic diagrams and documentation
    3. Ability to think through technical issues and visualize solutions both independently and in a team environment
    4. Skills in researching solutions to existing technical issues using all available sources including co-workers, documentation, vendors, and the Internet
    5. A strong attention to detail and customer service
    6. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills


    Proficient Performance Requirements for Knowledge and Skills


    Qualification to fulfill the full range of this position’s duties requires the following knowledge, which may be gained or further developed after entering the job:

    1. Understanding of the IT Department’s existing service management processes such as incident management and change management


    Qualification to fulfill the full range of this position’s duties requires the following skills, which may be gained or further developed after entering the job:

    1. Ability to effectively use agency system monitoring tools
    2. Ability to effectively use agency ticketing system


    Physical Requirements

    Medium Work:  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


    Repetitive Motions:  Substantial repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
