  • Overview

    Under general supervision, the Marketing Copywriter & Content Specialist concepts, creates and produces original, well-written content across a range of marketing channels, with a strong, consistent brand voice and a focus on reader understanding. This position is responsible for developing content for inbound and outbound marketing channels, for both traditional and online media. Duties include taking the lead in planning and calendarizing content, coordinating visual elements of the online content, publishing content to the website and social media, and maintaining brand voice standards.

    Essential Duties

    1. Write copy for outbound/traditional marketing materials, such as brochures, print ads, direct mail, outdoor advertising, TV/radio scripts, and field marketing collateral. Act as an integral contributor to a larger campaign or marketing plan.
    2. Develop concepts and produce content for inbound/online marketing, such as website content, blog posts, social media posts, infographics, case studies, emails, search engine marketing, digital advertising, and landing pages. Act as the project lead for content marketing efforts.
    3. Contribute to the development of content marketing strategies and plans. Identify and assess the latest content marketing trends. Participate in campaign concepting and planning.
    4. Act as the arbiter and advocate of our brand voice. Support the creation and maintenance of brand voice guidelines. Review content across the organization for adherence to those guidelines
    5. Maintain an editorial calendar for content marketing, email marketing, and social media.
    6. Utilize search engine optimization (SEO) practices, strategies, tools, and trends to maximize visibility and reach of online content.
    7. Create, edit, and publish website content in a CMS (content management system) environment.
    8. Generate, edit, and publish content on social media channels. Manage customer responses to Marketing social posts and advertising.
    9. Coordinate with designers to bring in visual elements to enhance online content.
    10. Track and analyze content performance, looking for opportunities to further optimize content for search engines, specific channels, and target audiences. Create A/B testing plans to test content effectiveness. Test language for effectiveness in all channels—digital, print, retail, field, signage, etc.
    11. Help support the Marketing team as a whole and contribute to Marketing-wide efforts as needed; perform other Marketing duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Bachelor's degree, preferably with an emphasis in a marketing, advertising, writing, public relations, journalism, English or a communication discipline, or equivalent experience.
    2. 3+ years of copywriting experience required; experience in an agency and/or in-house corporate environment preferred.
    3. 2+ years of professional marketing experience required; content marketing and social media experience preferred.
    4. Experience writing both short- and long-form copy for multiple platforms, including print/traditional, web/digital and social, required.
    5. Experience administering well-orchestrated content campaigns to drive results around marketing initiatives preferred.
    6. Demonstrated success in managing a business social media presence preferred.
    7. Editorial mindset that seeks to understand what content will engage audiences required.
    8. Proven ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment, while working independently and as part of a team required.

    Entry Requirements for Knowledge and Skills

    Qualification to enter this position requires knowledge of the following:

    1. The craft of writing and storytelling across a variety of print and digital mediums, ideally applied to corporate branding and marketing.
    1. Structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, punctuation, and grammar.
    2. Marketing principles, practices, strategies, techniques, and tools.
    3. Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
    4. Knowledge of online content strategy and creation.
    5. Knowledge of SEO practices, strategies, tools, and trends.
    6. Knowledge of how copy relates to art, design, and graphics.
    7. Problem analysis, decision making, follow up and continuous improvement.
    8. Principles and practices of record keeping and records management.
    9. Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

    Qualification to enter this position requires skill in:

    1. Outstanding writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
    2. Strong research skills.
    3. Strong project management skills with the ability to own and drive a project schedule from start to finish.
    4. Ability to analyze and report on content performance; adept at testing tools and methodologies, with a bias for data-driven content optimization strategies.
    5. Ability to use Content Management Systems (CMS) to publish content to the web.
    6. Ability to use native apps and social media tools to publish content on social channels.
    7. Effective time management; managing multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively.
    8. Critical thinking; using logic and reasoning to identify possible solutions.
    9. Facilitating diverse groups of stakeholders; developing and attaining consensus.
    10. Create and deliver dynamic presentations through excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
    11. Computer operation and software utilization (MS Office) in support of programs and projects.
    12. Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with teams/employees, supervisors, managers, Board members, and the general public.Communication and interpersonal relations as applied in interactions with peers, subordinates, teams/employees, supervisor, the general public, Board members and others.

    Qualification to fulfill the full range of this position’s duties requires the following knowledge, which may be gained or further developed after entering the job:
