    INTERNAL POSTING ONLY

    Under the general direction of the shop lead mechanic and in accordance with established procedures and methods, the Vehicle Service Worker safely performs routine inspections, servicing, lubrication and minor repairs of diesel powered buses and gasoline or diesel powered automotive equipment.

    Essential Duties

    • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance, servicing of company owned buses, trucks, vans and automobiles in accordance with established standards. Operation of the vehicle is required.
    • Change oil and filters, grease and lubricate company owned buses, trucks, vans and automobiles.
    • Use the Maintenance management software system to create preventive maintenance and repair work orders. Submit work orders for Lead review and scheduling.
    • Record work performed, parts used, and complete documentation as required on appropriate forms.
    • Vehicle steam cleaning as required.
    • Perform general cleaning to maintain professional work environment.
    • Operate vehicles such as transit coaches and support vehicles as authorized and necessary to accomplish primary responsibilities.
    • Actively promote and maintain professional and respectful interactions within Community Transit and with external customers.
    • Perform related work as assigned.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must possess a valid WA State Driver's license and have an excellent driving record.

     

    Entry Requirements:

    • Must possess the minimum set of required tools for the Vehicle Service Worker at the time of hire.
    • Must possess a Washington State Commercial Driver's License, with passenger and air brake endorsement within 90 days of hire.
    • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to work in an environment with grease, dust, dirt, chemicals, solvents, carbon monoxide and diesel fumes from vehicles and machinery.
    • Must be willing and able to work any shift assigned to meet the needs of the agency, including nights, weekends and holidays.
    • Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Must be able to speak, comprehend, read and write in English.
    • Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds.

    Qualification to enter this position requires knowledge of the following:

    • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions followed in heavy equipment repair shops.
    • Knowledge of safe use of compressed air.

    Qualification to enter this position requires skill in the following:

    • Skill in the use of jacks, wrenches, grease guns, hydraulic hoists, cleaning materials, and other tools and equipment used in the service and repair of heavy equipment.
    • Enter data into the work order system with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Ability to properly and safely use company equipment to service equipment (i.e. fuel island, steam cleaner, bus wash.).

     

    Physical Requirements

    Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position. Must be able to acquire and maintain a medical certification required for retaining a CDL. Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds.
    Must have ability for: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, carrying and driving.

     

    Selection Process - Applicants who meet the minimum requirements may be scheduled for an interview as well as a variety of tests to demonstrate knowledge, and skills for the position.  The evaluation process may include interviews, background checks, reference checks and various performance tests.
