Locates, purchases, records and dispenses parts and services to maintenance employees. Determines best-value purchases, assists contract administration, establishes a reliable vendor base and assures compliance with OEM safety-sensitive specifications. Maintains perpetual inventory system, performing cycle and annual year-end inventory counts.

 * Position may be assigned to any shift to meet the needs of the agency, including weekends and holidays.

Essential Duties

  1. Locates, purchases, records and dispenses parts and services for bus/auto/ facilities maintenance employees.
  2. Verifies receipts, maintains price records, stock locations, shipping logs, specifications of safety-sensitive parts, specifications of after-market parts purchased confirming compliance to safety-sensitive specifications, related documents, and assists contract administration in compliance with local, state and federal audit regulations.
  3. Researches and purchases unusual or hard-to-find goods and services. Collects and evaluates specific data/information on required specifications. Resources and evaluates best-value purchases (price vs. quality vs. warranty vs. delivery).
  4. Maintains centralized shipping and receiving department.
  5. Prepares specifications and conducts informal RFQ's for goods and services including evaluation and award in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  6. Analyzes usage trends and forecasts future stock usage, sets stock reorder levels, safety-stock levels and minimum stock levels. Designs and assists creation of custom inventory reports.
  7. Establishes a reliable after-market vendor base determining compliance with OEM safety-sensitive specifications. Assists in determining safety-sensitive parts. Researches potential vendors and offerings; evaluates quality of products and services.
  8. Evaluates and determines delivery requirements vs. cost. Negotiates disputed: pricing, core charges, re-stocking charges, receipts, delivery charges, warranties and quality issues with vendors.
  9. Maintains perpetual inventory system, performs cycle-counts and annual year-end inventory count.



High school diploma or equivalent
At least five years of experience in an automotive, industrial, bus or truck Parts department is required.




  1. Knowledge of basic automotive and diesel power-train specifications, brakes (air and hydraulic), suspension, air system controls, fuel management, exhaust and emission systems and standards.
  2. Knowledge of basic industrial supplies including: electrical supplies (ac and dc), hydraulic / air hose and fittings, fasteners, welding, body shop, HVAC and plumbing.
  3. Knowledge of basic inventory management principles and practices.
  4. Knowledge of basic purchasing, applicable procurement regulations, and general business practices.


  1. Skill in communication and interpersonal relations as applied to interactions with co-workers, supervisor, internal and external customers, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  2. Skill in designing evaluation methods, reviewing and evaluating programs to monitor effectiveness and devising methods for improvements or corrective action in procedures within an assigned area.
  3. Skill in researching and evaluating products for cost, quality and availability.
  4. Skill in interacting / communicating / negotiating with outside vendors.
  5. Skill in basic mathematical computations.
  6. Skill to drive a community transit company vehicle; must possess a valid wa state driver's license at time of hire.
  7. Skill to operate a forklift.
  8. Skill to operate a computer including: email, basic internet proficiency and an ability to operate in windows based environment.
