Overview

THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO CURRENT COMMUNITY TRANSIT EMPLOYEES ONLY

 

Under the direction of the Staff Development Manager, an Instructor develops, coordinates, schedules and executes, for new and existing employees of the corporation, skills development, procedural instruction, safety and required training programs to meet corporate training objectives; performs skill evaluations in assigned areas, maintains records and instructional resources and monitors effectiveness of training programs.

 

Transportation Instructor shall develop, coordinate and execute programs for employees throughout the corporation as assigned, with primary responsibility to the continuing education and certification of Transportation Supervisors, Dispatchers and other employees.

Essential Duties

  1. Research training subjects; develop course goals, objectives, and course curriculum; conduct classes to meet learning objectives. Prepare written, “hands-on” and oral exams as appropriate.
  2. Perform critical evaluation and audit of employee skill development. Prepare and maintain related records.
  3. Train new employees and existing employees on procedures of assigned department and required training for all levels of the organization.
  4. Perform needs assessment to determine and prioritize training and program requirements.
  5. Establish training schedules, arrange facilities, materials, training aids, participation.
  6. Evaluate and recommend training aids or programs for purchase.
  7. Recommends changes in established department procedures to increase the safety, efficiency or effectiveness of Operations Supervisors and other employees.
  8. Represent Training Department on committees, as requested.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Minimum of three years relevant experience which has been acquired in transportation, (Coach Operator, Supervision, Dispatch or Training).
  2. An Associate’s degree, or higher, in adult education, management, business or a related field may substitute for up to one year of the experience requirement.
  3. Must hold a valid WA Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement and no airbrake restriction and a valid DOT Medical Certification, unless approved for an exemption per the IAM contract.
  4. Possession or have ability to acquire certifications specifically related to assigned areas of instruction.
  5. One year experience working with a PC, using word processing and email functions.
  6. No written disciplinary action within the last two years (from date of your application).
  7. Excellent attendance record - may be demonstrated by earning the reliability award at least once in the last four quarters.
  8. Ability to work varied shifts and days with overtime, as required.
  9. Knowledge of standard operating procedures related to Community Transit operations, including Manpower Scheduling, Dispatch, Employee Development or Field Operations.

Preferred

  1. Must have a CDL license with passenger and airbrake lifted endorsments.

Qualifications to enter this position requires knowledge of the following:

  1. Community Transit operating practices and procedures.
  2. Standard operating procedures related to Community Transit operations, including Manpower Scheduling, Dispatch,  Employee Development or Field Operations.
  3. State and federal laws and regulations regarding motor vehicles and public transportation.

Proficient Performance Requirements for Knowledge and Skills

Qualification to fulfill the full range of this position’s duties requires the following knowledge, which may be gained or further developed after entering the job:

  1. Principles and techniques of modern adult education.
  2. The Community Transit system and its interactions with other transit agencies.
  3. Effectively manage complex projects and balance competing priorities.
  4. How to mentor or teach groups of people and public speaking experience.
  5. Basic transit coach mechanical systems and repair procedures.
  6. State and federal regulations regarding motor vehicles and public transportation.
  7. Proficient in Excel, Power Point and Training Tracker.

Qualification to fulfill the full range of this position’s duties requires the following skills, which may be gained or further developed after entering the job:

  1. Conducting training and making presentations.
  2. Keyboarding to perform self-supporting work, write reports, compile and analyze data.
  3. Analyzing training needs for a full range of positions.
  4. Developing, conducting, identifying and acquiring appropriate training programs.
  5. Able to provide mentorship/leadership.
  6. Design and implement training programs and related lesson plans.
  7. Conduct classes of instruction and evaluate participants.

Physical Requirements

Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeing, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive months, and carrying may be required as assigned.

 

Medium Work: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may be performed in an office, classroom, outdoors or in a shop environment with exposure to noise, grease, dirt and fumes.
