Overview

Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in the installation, repair and maintenance of communications tools and related electronic and communication equipment. Installs, maintains and tests various systems, detects and troubleshoots problems, documents drawing changes and upgrades, and follows and/or creates appropriate safety procedures.

Essential Duties

  1. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all electronic systems and associated equipment.
  2. Installs and removes electronic systems in coaches and support vehicles.
  3. Serves as the department technical expert for electronics equipment and assists managers or other staff in the technical development of communications plans, requirements and installation design.
  4. Tests electronic equipment with common and specialized tools, measuring instruments and testing devices. Testing will require vehicle operation.
  5. Maintains accurate records concerning work orders, labor hours, preventive maintenance, repair and modification of electronics equipment.
  6. Assist the Transit Technology Network Technician with the troubleshooting of electronics equipment.
  7. Performs duties of a similar nature.

Requirements

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of experience installing, maintaining and/or repairing electronics systems and equipment.
  • Successful completion of technical school program in electronics may substitute for two (2) years of required experience.
  • Must possess a valid WA State Driver's license at time of hire.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Washington State CDL license with passenger and airbrake endorsement within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

 

Qualification to enter this position requires knowledge of the following:

  • Procedures and techniques required for the installation, maintenance and repair of electronics equipment.
  • Use of tools, calibration and, diagnostic equipment used in electronic installation and maintenance.
  • Must be able to speak and write concisely in the English language.
  • Must be able to work in and around heavy duty buses in a shop environment.
  • Must be able to work any shift to include nights, weekends and holidays.

Entry Requirements for: Knowledge and Skills 

 

Qualification to enter this position requires skill in:

  • Use of electronic test and calibration equipment.
  • Use of electronic blueprints, diagrams and manuals.
  • Distinguish all colors used to identify conductors in multiple pair communications cables.
  • Use of personal computers and software applications.
  • Diagnose and correct defects in electronic equipment.
  • Providing effective, accurate, courteous and professional customer service under stressful conditions and for diverse groups of individuals, in a cordial and professional manner.

  • General electronic theory.
  • Tools, materials and equipment required of the trade.
  • Electronic test equipment and other specialized devices used in the repair, installation and maintenance of electronics systems.
  • Circuit analysis and design.
  • Methods, equipment and materials used in the service and installation of electronic equipment.
  • Computer related software and computer peripherals.
  • Occupational hazards and safety regulations of the trade.

Qualification to fulfill the full range of this position’s duties requires the following skills, which may be gained or further developed after entering the job:

  • Operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment associated with the trade.
  • Lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Interpret and apply related rules, codes, policies and procedures.
  • Read and interpret schematic, wiring and digital drawings.
  • Identify and isolate electrical and/or electronic problems and equipment malfunctions.
  • Analyze and resolve related problems.
  • Work independently.
  • Ability to drive a CT company vehicle.

Working Conditions 

Physical Requirements

Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger manipulation, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, carrying.

 

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. May be asked to attend training locally and within the United States.

 

Other: This position is considered safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation and is subject to drug and alcohol testing under both the DOT and Community Transit authority.
