As a Technical Writer, you will develop clear, concise, and user-friendly Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Task Detail lists.  The ideal candidate will have experience in creating technical documentation, process workflows, and step-by-step instructions for complex systems and processes.  This role requires a thorough understanding of business operations, the ability to communicate complex information in a simplified manner, and a collaborative mindset to work with cross-functional teams.

Essential Duties

Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive SOPs that document operational processes, ensuring consistency, clarity, and compliance with industry standards. Perform thorough checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, clarity, and appropriateness for the intended audience.

 

Document detailed task lists that break down complex processes into clear, actionable steps, enabling team members to navigate workflows and procedures with precision and efficiency.

 

Edit, update, and refine content based on input from technical trainers and subject matter experts.  Regularly review and revise standard operating procedures (SOPs) and task lists to reflect evolving processes, ensuring all documentation remains accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with industry best practices.  Maintain a system of version control to track document updates, revisions, and approvals.

 

Collaborate closely with internal teams, including operations, compliance, and others, to gather critical information, analyze processes, and transform technical terminology into clear, user-friendly documentation.

 

Provide technical assistance to team members and other employees.  Provide guidance and training to team members on how to use SOPs and task lists effectively.  Act as a point of contact for clarification on procedures and tasks.

 

Ensure all documents follow a consistent format and structure that is easy to navigate.  Apply appropriate style guides and templates to maintain uniformity across all documents.  Ensure that all documentation complies with regulatory, safety, and industry standards where applicable.

 

Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 1 year of experience in technical writing.
  • 1 year of experience with documentation tools, such as MS Word, Confluence, or SharePoint.

 

An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the job duties is also accepted.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Knowledge of version control systems, such as Git and SharePoint, and familiarity with document management best practices.
  • Project management.
  • Record and file management systems.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, English, technical communications, business, engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Technical writing certificate or professional certification.
  • Experience in a specific industry such as IT, Transit, or transportation industry experience.
  • Experience with business process mapping tools.
  • Instructional design.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and industry compliance, such as ISO, OSHA, FDA.
  • Bilingual skills.

 

 

Working Conditions

Hybrid telework may be available.  Availability is at management discretion and may not be available for this position based on the nature of the work.  Work is performed in an office environment and requires the use of office equipment and technology.  You will be required to move throughout and between different office buildings and may need to complete tasks in noisy environments.  You may also be required to lift and carry training materials and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds occasionally.
