Community Transit's IT Project Assistant Intern will be responsible for providing project/program support for the intelligent transportation systems (ITS) program under the direction of the Division Manager. Position will assist Division Manager in all aspects of the program. Role will include project research and planning, maintaining project management plans, developing project schedules, reporting of project status, travel support, coordination of project activities with consultants and staff, tracking project budget and expenditures, and managing project documentation and communication plans. Position will assist in all stages of project development including concept definition, procurement, implementation, and project closeout. Position may have project lead responsibility on small projects under the direction of the Manager.

Essential Duties

  1. Develop and maintain project/program documentation and communication plans ensuring regular and thorough communication and proper record keeping on all aspects of the project/program. Identify and resolve communication or documentation issues.
  2. Provide support, field work, and administrative support to the assigned Division with careful attention to regulatory, legal and contractual requirements.
  3. Assist the Division/Project Manager by leading one or more assigned elements of a project management plan under the direction of the Division/Project Manager.
  4. Conduct project research to determine industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements and recommend actions to improve project/program performance and compliance.
  5. Draft scopes of work. Coordinate with consultants and contractors to gather information, provide direction, and resolve issues.
  6. Coordinate and lead project team meetings or provide support to individuals to discuss and resolve issues related to project requirements, schedule, budget, or documentation.
  7. Build and maintain an integrated project/program schedule. Prepare project status reports, identify schedule performance problems, and recommend corrective courses of action.
  8. Develop and implement plans to mitigate project/program impacts.  

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  1. 1 years of experience supporting project management and delivery of projects.
    • OR BA/BS in Computer Science, Project Management, Engineering or related field  
  1. Excellent organizational and communication skills with a strong interest in project management.

 

An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the job duties is also accepted.

 

 

Qualification to enter this position requires knowledge of the following:

  1. Detailed knowledge of Microsoft suite.
  2. Learning aptitude.

 

Qualification to enter this position requires skill in:

  1. Preparing a variety of records, reports, documentation, and correspondence utilizing MS Office Programs.
  2. Coordinating and scheduling meetings with large stakeholder group.
  3. Detail orientation.
  4. Articulating effective communication both in written form and verbally.
  5. Work independently in a logical, analytical and detail oriented manner.
  6. Understand, transmit and follow written and verbal instructions.
  7. Successfully handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
  8. Establish and maintain effective, positive, and cordial working relationships with Community Transit personnel, outside consultants, and senior management.
  9. Meet deadlines with dependability and consistency.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, carrying.

 

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
