Overview

As an Instructional Designer at Community Transit, you will lead the development and implementation of compliance and job skills training for Community Transit employees.  This role focuses on creating effective learning materials that support Community Transit employees, so they are empowered to accomplish our mission of helping people get from where they are to where they want to be.

Essential Duties

Assess Training Needs

  • Assess and evaluate training needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, or consultation with internal clients.
  • Evaluate training materials and delivery modes to optimize effectiveness and cost.

 

Design and Develop Content

  • Organize, adapt, or develop course content, training procedure manuals, guides, lesson plans, student guides, job aids, simulation exercises, or course materials.  Includes electronic, in-person, on-the-job, and master course/train the trainer.
  • Identify, evaluate, recommend, and define learning and performance objectives, evaluation, and instructional methods.  Recommend changes and adjustments as needed.
  • Research and evaluate emerging instructional technologies or methods.
  • Manage projects to design and develop training content with stakeholders.

 

Implement and Evaluate Learning Solutions

  • Manage content and assignments in the Learning Management System.
  • Assess effectiveness and efficiency of instruction using the Kirkpatrick model, agency strategic business priorities, and enterprise program plans.
  • Audit existing learning content to ensure ongoing accuracy and effectiveness.

 

Present and Teach

  • Present needs analyses and learning delivery recommendations to stakeholders
  • Teach instructors how to use instructional technology or to integrate technology with teaching.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and/or maintain thorough documentation of instructional programs and materials, organizing for efficient access and use.
  • Recommend process improvements to facilitate improved training design and delivery.

 

Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in an Instructional Design capacity, including e-learning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the job duties is also accepted.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Instructional design methods.
  • Adult education and teaching strategies.
  • English language composition, grammar, and spelling.
  • Customer needs assessment, quality standards, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Production and dissemination of oral, written, and visual media.

 

Skill Requirements

  • Proficiency with content development tools such as the Articulate 360 suite, Captivate, Camtasia, Powtoon, and Synthesia.

 

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with learning management systems.
  • Project Management training or certification, such as PMP
  • APTD or CPTD

 

Working Conditions

Hybrid telework may be available.  Availability is at management discretion and may not be available for this position based on the nature of the work.  Most work is performed in an office environment and requires the use of office equipment and technology.  You may also be required to lift and carry training materials and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds occasionally, and up to 10 pounds frequently.  While performing training or research, you may also be exposed to automotive fumes, odors, and dust, and may need to complete tasks in noisy environments and varying weather conditions.
