Minimum Qualifications
- 3 years of increasingly responsible experience maintaining environmental compliance programs.
- Demonstrated competency in interpreting and applying environmental regulations.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the job duties is also accepted.
Knowledge Requirements
- Knowledge of current state-of-the-art practices in environmental engineering controls, pollution prevention, waste minimization, and industry environmental standards.
- Broad understanding of environmental regulations, regulatory agency rules, and industry best management practices and how to apply these to operations. Areas of environmental regulations generally include oversight and management of stormwater management systems; wastewater pretreatment systems; hazardous waste management; underground and aboveground storage tank systems; air emission sources; groundwater/soil remediation systems; and emergency response.
- Practical application of engineering and environmental science concepts, techniques, procedures, and equipment.
- Data collection, processing, modeling, management, analysis, stewardship, and reporting.
- Project management.
- Managing process improvement initiatives and guiding solutions to improve those processes.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in environmental studies, natural sciences, engineering, or a closely related field.
- Public transit, public agency, or regulated private industry experience.
- Possession of an environmental or related certification such as Registered Environmental Manager (REM), Certified Professional in Industrial Stormwater Management (CPISM), Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer (CESCO), Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHHM) or Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL).
- Familiarity with current Environmental ISO 14001 Standard.
- Contract administration.
- Enhanced investigation and audit abilities.
- Environmental treatment system research, installation, and maintenance.
- Emergency planning and spill response.
- Veeder Root TLS-450PLUS tank monitoring and response.
- Ability to instruct adult learners in technical training.
- Project management.
Working Conditions
You may be required to lift or carry materials up to 15 pounds frequently, and up to 40 pounds occasionally. You may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, or hazardous traffic situations when working in the field. You will be required to wear job-related personal protective equipment when needed and will also need to be available for after-hours communication and/or spill response.
