INTERNAL ONLY POSTING - CURRENT EMPLOYEES ONLY

As a Lead Journey Mechanic, you will oversee the Maintenance Main Shop, in conjunction with Maintenance Management.  You will assign and prioritize maintenance work, monitor team activity, and ensure all activity aligns with department standards and procedures.

Essential Duties

  1. Oversee the work of vehicle maintenance staff.  Ensure established standards, policies, and procedures for work performance, safety, and security requirements are followed.
  2. Provide technical assistance to troubleshoot problems and coach employees, when needed.  Conduct job-specific, hands-on training for new maintenance employees.  Conduct refresher training and training for new equipment or procedures.
  3. Assist with the scheduling of mechanics.  Prioritize work assignments to meet operational needs and ensure all shifts meet requirements for timely servicing of buses and other Community Transit vehicles.
  4. Maintain the quality and quantity of work.  Perform periodic quality control inspections to ensure mechanics are meeting expectations and to monitor the quantity of work performed by individuals.  Notify management of any performance or work issues.
  5. Monitor the proper functioning and reliability of tools and equipment used by mechanics.  Request any needed repairs and maintenance.
  6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of progressively responsible journey-level experience in vehicle maintenance including mechanical repair on diesel powered equipment.
  • Possession of a complete set of heavy equipment tools and a rolling toolbox.
  • Must have (or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire) a Washington State driver's license and a CDL license with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction removed.
  • Must be able to work any shift assigned to meet agency needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Health and safety hazards related to servicing vehicles and the proper precautions and use of safety equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance, and inspections of heavy-duty diesel equipment.
  • Computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Customer service best practices.
  • Staff or crew scheduling.

Working Conditions

90-100% of your work will be performed in an office environment and requires you to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.  You will be required to move throughout and between different office buildings.  Given the nature of this job, you may also be exposed to automotive fumes, carbon monoxide, odors, and dust and may need to complete tasks in noisy environments.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.  Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

 

This position is considered safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation and is subject to drug and alcohol testing under both DOT and Community Transit authority.
