Overview

Help Protect What Moves Our Community

At Community Transit, technology powers more than networks—it powers mobility for the communities we serve. We’re looking for an IT Cybersecurity Engineer with a strong foundation in enterprise security and a growing passion for Operational Technology (OT) to help secure our IT systems and the systems that support our next-generation zero-emissions fleet infrastructure.

This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering, operations, and real-world impact. You’ll help detect and respond to threats, strengthen our security posture, and build resilient systems that support essential public services with a primary focus on OT environments (fueling/charging systems, industrial control components, field devices, and the networks that connect them).

If you’re energized by meaningful work and ready to help protect critical infrastructure, we want to meet you!

Why Community Transit

This role is for someone who wants their work to matter. You’ll be protecting technology that supports an essential public service—helping keep transit safe, reliable, and ready for the future. You’ll collaborate with people who build and operate real systems in the real world, and you’ll have the opportunity to shape how modern security practices show up in a mission-driven environment.

What you’ll do

You’ll be a key security partner for the systems that power fleet operations and emerging zero-emissions technologies. Responsibilities may include:

  • Help design, implement, and continuously improve OT security controls across fueling/charging environments, industrial networks, and associated field systems.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Facilities, Engineering, and vendors to embed security into OT projects from day one (architecture reviews, security requirements, commissioning support).
  • Support segmentation and secure connectivity between IT and OT networks (e.g., zoning, firewall rules, remote access patterns, jump hosts, least privilege, MFA where feasible).
  • Assist with OT asset visibility (inventories, ownership, criticality, lifecycle), vulnerability management, and risk tracking—especially where patching is constrained by uptime/safety needs.
  • Contribute to incident readiness for OT: logging expectations, detection use cases, response playbooks, tabletop exercises, and recovery planning.

You’ll also help protect Community Transit’s broader digital environment through work such as:

  • Monitoring and responding to security events (triage, containment, eradication, and lessons learned).
  • Supporting security tooling and workflows (endpoint security, identity controls, email/web protections, SIEM use cases, alert tuning).
  • Performing vulnerability scanning, remediation coordination, and verification.
  • Assisting with security assessments for new technology, vendors, and integrations.
  • Helping strengthen foundational practices like secure configuration, access reviews, and user/security awareness.

What success looks like in this role

  • OT systems are more visible, better segmented, and easier to defend without disrupting safe operations.
  • Security becomes a practical partner to operations—reducing risk while enabling uptime and reliability.
  • Threat detection and response becomes more effective through better telemetry, clearer playbooks, and repeatable processes.
  • Projects ship with security built in—not bolted on.
