Community Transit is seeking a Term Limited Coach Operator Instructor to train and develop new and existing Coach Operators. This position is responsible for delivering effective classroom instruction, and behind-the-wheel training. May conduct same or parts of the same training for other employees as assigned.

  • Term-Limited Position: This position is funded as a term-limited assignment with a current end date of December 31, 2026. Based on organizational needs and continued funding, the assignment may be extended for up to an additional 12 months. Appointment to this position does not guarantee continued employment beyond the term-limited assignment. If a regularly funded position becomes available during or following the assignment, the incumbent may be appointed to the position, subject to organizational policies, applicable employment requirements, and business needs. There is no guarantee of continued employment or appointment to a regular position.

Essential Duties

  • Conduct training for Coach Operators and Coach Operator Trainees. May provide all or portions of training to other employees as assigned.
  • Provide classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel driving education.
  • Assist with researching, developing, preparing, and maintaining instructional materials and training aids, as assigned.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining training schedules.
  • Evaluate and audit employee skill development, including annual Coach Operator evaluations, post-accident training, and other applicable assessments.
  • Prepare and administer written, practical, and oral examinations, as appropriate.
  • Assess training needs and make recommendations to management.
  • Create, maintain, and update training-related documentation and records.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a Community Transit Coach Operator with at least three years of experience in this role at Community Transit. One year of previous bus or driving instruction experience may be substituted for one year of Community Transit experience.
  • One year of experience working with a personal computer, including word processing and email functions.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction removed.
  • Valid DOT Medical Certification.
  • No more than one moving violation within the last five years.
  • No more than one preventable accident within the last three years while employed as a Coach Operator.
  • No written disciplinary action within the last three years.
  • Excellent and reliable attendance record for the last three years.
  • Ability to work varied shifts and days, including overtime as required.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed both indoors in an office or classroom environment and outside the office in a transit coach while training drivers.
  • May be required to move throughout and between different buildings and work in noisy environments.
  • Must be able to lift and carry training materials and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Conducting presentations and on-road training may require standing and walking for sustained periods.

Other

  • This position is considered safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation and is subject to drug and alcohol testing under both DOT and Community Transit authority.
